ONE BATTLE AFTER ANOTHER

I'm truly honored to have created an official poster in collaboration with the upcoming movie ONE BATTLE AFTER ANOTHER, directed by Paul Thomas Anderson!
PAUL THOMAS ANDERSON
I’ve been a fan of Paul Thomas Anderson since my early days working at Landmark Theatres, when Boogie Nights and Magnolia first hit screens. Punch Drunk Love is when I really fell in love with his work, but truthfully I’ve admired every film he’s made. Being invited to design a poster for one of his films is a tremendous honor and a full-circle moment for me.
THOMAS PYNCHON
My interest in Thomas Pynchon actually came through Anderson’s Inherent Vice. I hadn’t read him before, though I was already a fan of writers often mentioned alongside him, like David Foster Wallace and Philip K. Dick. After seeing the film, I picked up Vineland, which became my entry point into Pynchon’s world. One Battle After Another is loosely based on that novel.
THE ARG CAMPAIGN
To build buzz for the film, we launched a nationwide Alternate Reality Game that pulled fans into a multi-platform story. Flyers with hidden phone numbers activated a phone tree that led to a Discord server and eventually a custom Fortnite lobby built with campaign assets. Fans were encouraged to print and post flyers themselves, with an influencer(@Wahony) and myself helping amplify the world through content and special collectibles. A social media character(Roman Candle w/ @romancandle75) kept fans engaged, while YouTube(@FrenchSeventyVibez) loops, microsites, and browser games provided ongoing clues and unlocks. The result was an immersive experience that turned traditional marketing into participatory storytelling.
THE POSTER
When I was approached for this project, the creative director wanted to draw from the bold relief printmaking style of late 19th and early 20th century Mexico, particularly the work of José Guadalupe Posada. We selected a striking image from the film and paired it with the phrase “Rise and Shine,” rendered in that dark, scratchy style of political art from the era. A limited edition of fine art prints was then hand-pulled by master screen printer Martin Hammond of Diamond Hill, signed and numbered. These are not for sale and can only be earned through participation in the Discord campaign.
THE WHEATPASTING IN DENVER
We collaborated with the iconic Landmark Mayan Theatre to wheatpaste the poster! The Mayan will be showing the film One Battle After Another. We also collaborated with City O' City and Off the Bottle to wheatpaste in their alleyway, located in the heart of Denver.
